Confirmation: (n) the action of confirming something

Knowing that you’ve been perplexed and even perturbed by the uncertainty in our world, I offer to you the following confirmations:

  1. No one is better than anyone else. (You knew that when you were a little kid, but the adult journey has attacked your faith in the concept.)
  2. Men and women are equal, unless they act like boys and girls
  3. Arguing about religion is comical, since no one really knows one way or the other
  4. Since banks are reluctant to take a two-party check, we might want to check over our two party system
  5. Waiting for the end of the world prevents you from beginning.
  6. Losing weight is not the issue–trying to lose weight makes you healthier.
  7. No race has the best athletes. A race is just that–a sprint.
  8. There is no real substitute for cheese. Save up your calories.
  9. Laughing makes you child-like. Pouting makes you childish.
  10. If life isn’t easy, then work harder to make it easy.

Bond

Bond: (v) to be joined securely to something else

It’s a confirmation that I’m heading somewhere–usually out the door.

So footwear has a special significance to me. It tells me I’m ready. It tells me I’m going to be moving from my place of personal sanctuary into the coliseum of fellow-gladiators.

At that point, I need to understand one immutable reality: I must bond.

  • I must find a reason to get along with others.
  • I must be looking for commonality.
  • I must carry a pocketful of logic to pay the toll on a highway of misunderstanding.
  • I must realize that even though the humans around me may put on ugly masks or disguise themselves behind clown noses, beneath all that fakery is another soul not so different from me.
  • I must penetrate color.
  • I must be able to incorporate another gender.

I must find the bond … or stop being surprised that the whole damn world seems unglued.

Bemuse

Bemuse: (v) to puzzle, confuse, or bewilder someone.

Dictionary B

There are four reasons that can motivate what I do:

  1. Because God wants me to
  2. Because you want me to
  3. Because they want me to
  4. Because I want to

During every election season, I am bemused by the surrounding horde of candidates who are constantly trying to figure out what is going to be pleasing to the mass accumulation of voters.

Inevitably, because they’re trying to find what other folks want them to do, they end up stumbling over some piece of truth and speak it aloud, which they have to apologize for–insincerely.

If you want to remove bewilderment from your life–that sense of being bemused–discover one very interesting insight:

Try to fulfill at least two things off of the above list of four.

First, find out what you want to do, and then, ask yourself if it lines up with God, someone else or everybody.

It’s nice to have that confirmation. Granted, it’s not always possible.

But if you can have a buddy or divinity to back you up in the court of public opinion after you’ve spoken your desires, it does assist in helping you survive … the onslaught of nasty tweets.

Balk

Balk: (v) to hesitate or be unwilling to accept an idea or undertaking.Dictionary B

I guess the classic phrase is, “He who hesitates is lost.”

I don’t know exactly what that means. Lost in what sense? I think it would be better stated, “He who hesitates is last.”

Probably the most useless attribute that you can press upon your children is caution.

Yes, I know we want them to be careful.

I know we live in a generation which now believes that bicycle riding requires helmets.

But by the same turn, there is very little in life offering a pocketful of surety.

Whether it’s pursuing a romantic relationship or praying for a miracle, there is a certain wild, abandoned faith that needs to be in place to give us an opportunity to end up as winners.

A calculated risk is fine as long as we don’t use too much time calculating and realize there still will be some risk.

In the same manner, a well-thought-out plan is noble if the “well-thought-out” doesn’t take up all the time which might have been used to enact the plan.

  • Have I ever been blessed by balking?
  • Have I ever received insight by waiting to be informed instead of seeking out confirmation?

As I sit here today, I must say no … and feel that if I take any more time considering it, I would just be balking.
